Prayer Letter

August 2008

Dear Pastor and Praying Friends,

Wow, I can’t believe that the day has finally come!  August 22 is our departure date to Costa Rica for language school.  We have been busy spending time with family and saying goodbye to them.  I always imagined the day when we would have to say goodbye to family, but I didn’t think it would come this fast.

We have picked up a lot of memories and stories while we have been on deputation.  I can say now from experience that deputation has really been a learning tool.  God has taught my family and me a lot about faith while on deputation.  I can look back at some situations while on deputation and say, “Only the Lord got us out of that situation.”  People have said to me that I should write a book about all the experiences on deputation.  Maybe one day I will write that book, but not right now.

We have the majority of our support and are still in need of more support.  The immigration laws in Honduras have become a little stricter.  The cost of permanent residency is going to cost nearly $5,000.  It will now take twelve to eighteen months to gain permanent residency.  While we are getting our permanent residency in Honduras, we can only stay in Honduras on a tourist visa for three months and then have to be outside the country in Mexico, Panama, or the United States.  They are getting very particular about this also.  Although this might sound discouraging, I know a God that is more powerful than any government.  I know a God that sets up kings and takes kings down.  I know a God that can build a kingdom and can tear down a kingdom.  I know God will see us through.

Please keep praying for us concerning this situation and that the will of the Lord might be done.  As we leave the country to do what the Lord has called us to do, thank you to each church for giving us meetings, thank you to each church for financially supporting us, and thank you to each church for prayerfully supporting us.  We have met some of the godliest and sweetest Christians across this nation.  If you do not financially support us would you consider supporting us?  I have preached that the mission of the church is missions and there is a wonderful opportunity to see a gospel-preaching church where there wasn’t one before.  Let’s do everything we can to see this world come to Christ.
